This version, though it lacks the scale and compass rose, shows detail of Marvic's immediate surroundings.

  The city commands an important site, as it overlooks the only low elevation pass that leads to Vatheran to the north, and Norda to the west.  Though the city sits at relatively high elevation, its proximity to Fallen Moon Lake moderates its climate, enabling a thriving market garden economy in the valleys that extend to its northwest.  Though the region remains sparsely populated due to its remote location, Marvic's status as the Tamarian national capital has enabled it to become the third largest city in the country, behind Burning Tree and Vengeance.

The northern and eastern banks of Fallen Moon Lake are populated with small towns linked by steam boats.  Residents of the region have to be relatively self-sufficient because they have weekly access to the rest of the country, at best.  A train runs from the Hangman Valley and connects to Marvic over a massive suspension bridge that crosses the Angry Bear River just south of Blind Beggar Bay, but it runs only twice per week.  This is the reason why Garrick was late when he reported for officer's training.
