This
map of the Deveran continental landmass comes from 1982, a time
while the development of the milieu and its stories first sprang from
my imagination. While I have many ideas for the entire continent,
the stories in the Deveran Conflict Series take place among the nations
near the major mountain chain on the left side of this image. Full Color Devera
This version represents many hours of painstaking work in Photoshop. The left hand side of the map is more detailed because that's where the stories take place, and I needed to flesh in the map in order to adequately describe what's going on in the narrative.

The
need to include maps within the book itself led to the development of
this copy. Its outline is based on a sectional enlargement of the
riginal map, showing the nation of Tamaria and the northeastern part
of Kameron. My friend and colleague, Annette Gray, created this
version for me.

Annette t
old me that the maximum number of colors used in
a map must be limited to five. I felt that the strong color of
this version appealed more to my eye than the hand colored version
Annette made on my behalf. However, the file size proved too large for
effective printing. That's why I've stopped including maps with the paperback versions and refer readers to this page, instead. This version contains most of the Tamarian place names mentioned in The Long Journey, Crisis, and Ceremonies and Celebrations. The only places that are not shown are those to the southeast of Broken Wing Lake, where most of the action occurs in The Edge of Justice.
Northwestern
Tamaria
This
map shows the region surrounding Marvic. I did not include rail
lines in this image in order to keep it as easy to understand as
possible. This is merely an enlargement of the upper left-hand
corner of the Tamarian map, with additionally named geographic features,
including Hungry Valley, where Garrick trains with his men, and
Superstition Mesa, where Algernon makes his home.
Southwestern Tamaria
When Algernon and Astrid
take the train from Marvic, they follow Kira's trail to Red Claw.
The narrative moves quickly to Fair Haven Fortress, then up the
Tualitin River. This map did not make it into The Long
Journey either, though it would be helpful for readers to
visualize the trip by rail and steam boat that Algernon and Astrid
undertake. The Kingdom of Kameron lies south of the Desolation
River and west of the Tualitin River. While there is no compass
rose nor scale on this map, north is at the top, south at the bottom
and the steam boat journey from Red Claw to Fair Haven Fortress takes
about 8 hours by steamboat.
Northeastern
Kameron
I have lost the color edition of this map in various computer upgrades, so this greyscale version that I used for Crisis happens to be the only one I can find. Much of what happens in the last half of The Long Journey and much of Crisis can be traced on this map. Unfortunately, when I created and first saved this map, I flattened the layers I'd created in Photoshop and saved the image in .jpeg format. At the time, I didn't quite understand how lossy that file format is, so the quality of this map is lower than it should be. Most of the action in the first four novels can be followed using this copy. Sad, isn't it? La Casa del Matados This is the place of Brenna's torment in Crisis. Readers can use this to follow the battle for its liberation. Superstition Mesa This map was included in the paperback versions of Crisis.
