Bio:

When examined on the surface, Garrick's early years seem idyllic.  He adored his family, particularly his younger siblings, Algernon and Kira.  The Ravenwoods worked a mixed fruit orchard dominated by apple trees, high on a beautiful bluff overlooking Broken Wing Lake, with the cascading waters of Deception Creek flowing through their property.  The shelter of their orchards provided an ideal playground for young children during the long, hot summers and cold winters.

But their family dynamic had never been very healthy.  Minimally functional relationships, especially between Garrick's parents, strained over time and dramatically worsened as the demand for high quality fruit rose in response to certain market conditions.  The Ravenwood's apples, grown at relatively high alititude in marginal soil, did not fare as well when customers began demanding large, sweet fruit free from transport damage.  Family income declined precipitously, and with it, all hope of financial success and happiness drained away.

Alcoholism, violence, sexual abuse and neglect soon characterized the Ravenwood family.  Garrick spent a great deal of energy protecting his twin siblings and building an elaborate network of lies to conceal the truth of his family's disintegration from friends, neighbors and relatives, all to no avail.  To protect his brother and sister from the worsening domestic environment, Garrick moved them far away.  Soon, it became evident that he could no longer stay on the family farm, so he fled to his maternal uncle's ranch on the Saradon.  The situation there became untenable not long afterward, so Garrick escaped his family problems by signing up for the Tamarian army.  That fateful decision changed his life forever.
